Tell us a bit about yourself
I’m a self taught artist born and raised in Mumbai, India. I have been in love with art ever since I was a child and loved trying out different art forms. I have explored traditional drawing, painting, to silver foil engraving art (I can sit for hours doing this). About 7-8 years ago I learnt how to make my very own dream catcher, at that time it was something so exotic and it wasn’t very common in India so I started my very first tiny business making dream catchers and selling them; I also learnt to make bracelets. Two years ago I discovered digital art after my aunt gifted me my very first iPad with a pencil and that made me look at art in a whole different light. Apart from art, I’m also very passionate about dancing, music. I love creating my own natural lip balms, skin and hair care and designing planners.
What made you start your company?
I was actually in Perth, Australia for about 5-6 years and returned back to India just before COVID hit. That was a very difficult time for everyone where people were losing their jobs and companies were not hiring. I was lucky enough to have some work experience for about 9 months, but was let go due to COVID reasons and lockdown. I then decided to just go ahead with my own business and not wait any longer. I made this decision a month ago in September, so my business is very new right now. But I’m happy with how it’s going so far, I’m overwhelmed with all the love and support I’ve received from family, friends and others as well!
Tell me about your product and brand?
My brand NY Illustrations was created to be ; Unique, Ethical, Sustainable, Creative and Affordable. I sell both hand painted and digital products. The material used to make the cloth tote bags are all recycled and locally stitched, which are then hand painted on by Myself. Customers can even get their bags personalised with whatever design or text they want me to paint for them. I want my bags to not only be a trendy fashion accessory, but also be a method of spreading important messages through my artwork. These bags not only represent being eco friendly, reducing the use of plastic, recyclable, but along with some bags will also have artwork that relay an important message on it. For the digital products I do illustration designs, which could be an illustration of themselves or friends and family, of their pets, landscape or just a particular text or pattern they like. They can buy and use their design as per their own use at home or as a personalised gift . Some may want to create wall art out of it, some may want to print it on their clothes, mugs, masks, notebooks etc.
