Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Karina, I am 24 years old and I am a Ukrainian immigrating to Spain) As my future husband says, “You are my flower fairy” I love flowers very much, I associate them with a sense of freshness and tranquility. It has not yet been a day when I walked past a flower shop and did not buy another orchid in my studio! It is the flowers that inspire me to create my jewelry from polymer clay! Making jewelry is my love, my biggest hobby and hobby for my heart and soul!

What made you want to do art as a career?

Before I write my long life story, I want to say that this story can be inspiring. In 2018, my boyfriend and I are forced to leave our home, our country and leave in search of a new life.Being immigrants in a foreign country, it was very difficult to find myself and find a place among strangers. I just existed for the first years without knowledge of the Spanish language, without work, without friends … I could not even order coffee .. not everyone loves strangers in their home .. Then somehow, when my mother-in-law and I were at home and watching TV, she asked a fateful question that turned my life upside down! She asked: “Karina! What do you know about polymer clay? “And at that time, for a couple of years, I started sculpting something, but threw it away .. And when she asked me what I know about this material? That it will help me find myself and distract myself from all the problems that have arisen. We didn’t have a lot of extra money to buy the necessary materials, and I remember that in only one store there was polymer clay, it was very very dry, it was very hard to work with it and we bought the necessary colors, a plastic clay scalpel and pink rugs for which were molded! As my mother-in-law says: “I will never forget the expression on your face at that moment”

 Tell me about your products?

At first, we sculpted simple flowers, berries, gave it to friends. Then small orders for certain types of jewelry began to appear. It took a lot of time, but it was very distracting from everything. The very first name of my store was invented by my mother-in-law, my store was called Linda_ Handmade. And a year ago my boyfriend expressed his opinion and said that this name is not suitable for my store. It is not associated with my jewelry. And now my store is called SuDiosa_Jewelry and I sell my jewelry all over the world!People make individual orders completely trusting me and relying on my taste and skill! And also I am a content creator for polymer clay Fimo, I create and maintain my own YouTube channel, and it is quite possible that writing my book will also be my achievement!

What struggles have you faced when getting into the industry?

Probably one of my biggest difficulties is that I did not believe in myself and that what I do brings people smiles and joy. It took me many years to tell myself that I am great! That I give people positive emotions. I doubted a lot, I could not find myself, my style, my clients. Since I am a foreigner, it was very difficult to communicate with people, to write all the time through a translator. The platform on which I present my work is in English … At first it was terribly difficult, but now I do it with a smile on my face and very quickly )

How did you get over them?

The support of my close people helped me, a lot of articles about self-perception were read. I’ll explain. Every day I spend more and more time in the master. I have no days off, I work every day and sometimes even at night. And all this I did to compensate for the lack of work. It’s hard to accept the fact that you can also earn money at home. I was afraid that my loved ones would not understand me and my step. But I turned out to be wrong! As it turned out, they always believed in me, supported and gave me the opportunity to realize their ideas and themselves! When my hobby grew to the level of a small brand and my work, I realized that this is what I dreamed of, and when me and my work were printed in a magazine, it’s beyond words! Some tears of happiness and pride in your path and achievements!

Is any advice for others just getting started?

If you started your journey, go to the end! Fall, get up, fall again and get up again until your soul and heart teaches you. Believe in yourself, listen only to yourself and be sure to set yourself small goals that you can really reach! Do as much a day as you can, but be sure to ask yourself the question before going to bed: “What did I do today?”  in small steps to big goals!

Do you have a favourite quote?

As my dad says: “Water does not flow under a lying stone” This proverb says that if nothing is done, things will not budge, nothing will change. … With such a proverb, we kind of encourage a person to action.
